QuikStore Installation Wizard

System Overview:

The QuikStore Installation Wizard is used to automatically install all of the required Quikstore component files to your web server. This is the first step in using the Quikstore program.

As the files are uploaded to the server, the Wizard will preset many of the basic configuration parameters that are used in the main configuration file for the Quikstore Program.

Depending on the type of Web Server used, the Installation Wizard will install the appropriate version of Quikstore to the server. For UNIX servers, it will install the “cgi” version. For NT/2000 servers, it will install the “pl” version of the program. If your web server is a UNIX machine, the Installation Wizard will also attempt to automatically set the directory and file permissions as the files are uploaded to the server. The Wizard cannot automatically set file permissions on Windows NT/2000 web servers.

Running the Wizard:

When you click on the icon to run the Wizard, the first screen will ask you for your logon information for your server.

There are three entries:

This is the name of web server.  You can use either the domain name or the ip address.

Example: quikstore.com or 192.168.0.1

This is your logon name for the server.

This is your password for the server.

Enter the Host, Logon Name, and Password for your server as shown below, then click the Next button.

When you click the Next button, the Installation Wizard will attempt to logon to the server using the information you've entered.  If all of the information is okay, the directory tree window will display the default logon directory and the status will display "Done!".

Once the Installation Wizard has successfully connected, you will asked to navigate to your Document Root directory. The Document Root directory is the same folder that your html pages are stored in. If you are unsure what the name of this directory is, you will need to ask your web host.

Examples of Possible Document Root Directories:

Directory Path Server Type
/ UNIX/NT/2000
/home/quikstore/www UNIX
/home/quikstore/htdocs UNIX
/quikstore-www UNIX
c:/inetpub/wwwroot NT/2000

Double-click on the folders in the directory tree window until the Current Directory at the top of the screen shows the Document Root.

Once the Document Root location is selected, click the Next button. This will bring you to the directory settings screen. These settings tell the Installation Wizard where to put the Quikstore files on the server.

There are three entries:

This is the document root directory as described above.

This is where the graphics will be uploaded to.

Example: /quikstore-www/graphics or /graphics

This is the directory where .cgi (UNIX) or .pl (NT) scripts run from.

Example: /quikstore-www/cgi-bin or /cgi-bin

The Installation Wizard will attempt to automatically set these directory paths.  However, if any of the directory paths listed are incorrect, you can change them by editing the corresponding text box or by clicking on the browse button.

When all of the directory paths are correct, click the Next button. This will bring you to the URL settings screen.

There are three entries:

This is the web site URL to your site.  You must enter the full URL.

Example: http://www.quikstore.com  or   http://192.168.0.1

This is the URL to the graphics on your site.  You must enter the full URL.

Example: http://www.quikstore.com/graphics  or  http://192.168.0.1/graphics

This is the URL to the cgi-bin on your site.  You must enter the full URL.

Example: http://www.quikstore.com/cgi-bin  or  http://192.168.0.1/cgi-bin

Enter the Web Site, Graphics, and Cgi-bin URLs then click the Next button.

At this point the Installation Wizard will upload a small setup program to the server to check the operating environment.  After this file is finished running, the Wizard will begin to upload the QuikStore files to the server (this usually takes a few minutes).

You can watch the Wizard as it goes through the installation process.  If, for any reason, you would like to cancel the upload process just click the Cancel button.

When all of the files have been uploaded, you can now run the demo store to see if the installation was successful.

If you run the demo store, your browser will open and it will navigate to the default Web Site URL you've entered above.  It will then open the quikstore.html page.  This page is the demo store main page.

There are two demo stores that you can run.  The first store is an html store which only has one product that you can test, but allows you to try multi-pricing functionality.  The second store is a database store which allows you to view products by category. We recommend that you run an order all the way through the demo system to check and make sure everything got installed and setup correctly.

NOTE:  After you choose whether or not you would like to run the demo store, the Wizard will close.

NOTE: If for some reason, your demo store does not run, continue to the File Permissions section.

Using the Installation Wizard to publish your edited files

Once the Web Server installation is complete, you can then use the Installation Wizard to upload your edited web site files that are located in the 'server_files' directory under the path where you installed QuikStore on your PC. This is the safest method of publishing your Quikstore files since the Installation Wizard automatically uses the proper ftp transfer mode to upload the files.

Note:  Any files that you upload using the Installation Wizard will overwrite any existing Quikstore files that are already on the server.

If for some reason, your demo store does not run,
continue to the File Permissions section.

Otherwise, continue to the Initial Configuration Settings section.
