Quikstore v3.0 - Quick Installation Guide
Downloading the software
When you complete your purchase of Quikstore v3.0 you will be sent an email with a link to download your Quikstore software from our server. Please note: If you have purchased an upgrade to v3.0 Quikstore from v2.12, you will be sent a confirmation email containing your download link, once your eligibility as an existing user has been verified. This will normally be within 1 working day, but you may be asked to provide proof of purchase before your software can be sent to you.

Next, click the link and download the zip file to a directory on your PC, eg. c:\quikstore3.
After you have downloaded the program file, expand the zip file and extract all the files to the same directory, making sure that you retain the directory structure of the zip file. Check in Windows Explorer that your extracted files list looks something like this:

Uploading the Quikstore Program Files to Your Web Server
Using an FTP program, eg. WS_FTP or CuteFTP, upload the Quikstore program files to your webspace area. This may be to a dedicated directory for Quikstore or the document root area. If you are intending to add the Quikstore cart to an existing web site it is probably a good idea to install Quikstore into a separate directory eg. qs30. If you don't have an FTP program you can use your Internet Explorer browser as an FTP program, to drag and drop the installation files to your webspace area. To do this, you may need to enable IE to run in FTP mode in your IE Internet Options menu.

On Windows web servers, you will not normally need to set any special access rights to the Quikstore cart files or directories.

On Linux or UNIX servers you may need to use the CHMOD command to set the /include and /cp directories to have 755 rights so that the install program can function correctly.

You will also need to set Read/Write/Execute (777) rights to the images/thumbnail and images/fullsize directories, otherwise you will not be able to upload product images. For further information on file permissions see the knowledge base articles at http://www.quikstore.com/30help.html
Installing Quikstore v3.0 on your Web Server
Depending on the system used by your ISP, create a blank MySQL database using your CPanel utility for Linux/Unix servers or phpMyAdmin, Plex, Helm or similar for Windows Servers. If you don't have this facility, contact your server administrator and ask him to create a blank MySQL database for you. You will need to note down the following information, which is required in the next stage of the installation:

Database name:
Username for the above database:
Password:
IP or host address for your database: (Normally "localhost" will work fine)

Next, start Internet Explorer or the browser of your choice and navigate to the install program by typing this URL:

http://www.your_domain_name.com/directory/install.php; where "your_domain_name.com" is your website URL and "directory" is the name of the directory where you installed the Quikstore files to. Work your way through the on-screen prompts to complete the installation. The install script will now create the MySQL database tables for Quikstore and upload the settings you have chosen. You will see a success page like this, if everything has installed correctly.

If not, you can correct any problems and re-run the install.php script until you get things right. If your install fails to run correctly but creates or partially creates the MySQL database tables, it would be best to delete all the tables and start again from the beginning by selecting the option to delete the database tables in the first install screen.

Customizing a Template or using your own Designs
Quikstore 3.0 comes with ten template banners but the concept and use of a simple template design within Quikstore 3.0 allows you to easily integrate any html design. The Quikstore templates are supplied with PhotoShop .psd master images so you or your web designer will be able to customize these quite easily. If you intend to use an existing website design and integrate Quikstore, you will need to include two content tags for Quikstore within the html code for your new template. Just cut and paste the Quikstore template tag coding into your new template. If you wish to use one of other Quikstore templates, copy the relevant store.template.html file to the document root of your website and copy the images from the relevant template folder to the images directory in your Quikstore root directory.

Remember that, if you feel your computer skills are not up to carrying out the above tasks, you can get our support engineers to do the installation for you for $50. Note that this service fee does not include customizing design templates or converting existing html Quikstore product catalogue pages or importing product data from 2.12 Quikstore databases , although we can quote for doing this work too.

Upgrading from Quikstore 2.12
If you are already running an older version of Quikstore on your website, you will need to plan how you wish to upgrade your site to version 3.0, in order to limit the disruption to your site and inconvenience to your online customers. The upgrade process is quite straightforward but may take a little time if you have lots of html-based product catalogue pages or a large product/options database.

Quikstore 3.0 is not compatible with any 2.12 plugin modules. If you have previously purchased any Quikstore 2.12 add-on modules or payment gateways, you will not be able to use these with v3.0. However, the good news is that Quikstore 3.0 does now include the functionality of most of the 2.12 plugins in the standard release product - but do check with our support staff before proceeding with an upgrade if you rely upon 2.12 plugin modules or have had your Quikstore site customized in any way by our program team.

A good upgrade strategy is to install the new v3.0 Quikstore into a separate directory, say, /qs30. Create your new MySQL database and install Quikstore 3.0 and make sure you have configured it correctly and have run test transactions before continuing to import your 2.12 data or catalogue pages. Once you are happy that the new installation is running OK, you can import any 2.12 products and options using the built-in Import utility included in the Control Panel. Once you have imported any old database products/options, check that these list correctly in the CP/Products tool and that the data is intact. The import program will preserve the old image links so make sure you adjust the thumbnail and fullsize image path statements in the CP/Images menu. You should now be able to see all your old products in the new v3.0 home page.

If you currently run a static, html-based 2.12 store, you can still use all your existing pages with one simple change to the Form Action statement. Mostly this will involve a search and replace change of "quikstore.cgi" to "cart.php". Make sure that you test one page fully before converting hundreds of html pages!! If you've installed Quikstore 3.0 in a separate sub-directory, make sure the new path to cart.php is valid eg. qs30/cart.php. Again make sure you can perform a test transaction all the way through the cart before proceeding further.
